The main weekend of the Hogueras de San Juan 2026 is officially under way in Alicante, bringing a packed schedule of traditional events, firework displays and local festivities to the city.
The day began in the early hours of Friday 19 June at 00:01, with the traditional plantà of the children’s bonfires and the ninots de carrer. This event saw the decorative figures officially installed across all districts of Alicante, transforming the streets and marking the visual start of the celebrations.
Later today, the focus shifts to the thunderous noise of gunpowder. The city will host the second session of the XXXVII Concurso de Mascletaes at 14:00. The display will take place at the iconic Plaza de los Luceros and will be conducted by Pirotecnia Crespo. Thousands of residents and visitors are expected to gather in the square to experience the intense daytime firework performance.
Festivities are set to continue late into the evening with the opening of the traditional festive eating and drinking areas, known as racós and barracas, where attendees will gather for the customary cena de cabasset.
